Monocrom Joins EFFRA: Supporting Innovation in Advanced Manufacturing in Europe

Monocrom has joined the European Factories of the Future Research Association (EFFRA), one of the leading European platforms dedicated to research and the development of new production technologies. This alliance reinforces our long-standing commitment to innovation, international cooperation, and strengthening the European industrial ecosystem.

What is EFFRA?

EFFRA (European Factories of the Future Research Association) is a non-profit, industry-driven association that aims to promote innovative, sustainable, and competitive manufacturing technologies. It acts as the private partner of the European Commission within the Made in Europe initiative, part of the Horizon Europe framework.
EFFRA fosters pre-competitive research in advanced manufacturing by connecting companies, universities, technology centers, and public bodies in a collaborative ecosystem that spans the entire industrial value chain. Its mission is clear and ambitious: to make Europe a global leader in sustainable, resilient, and intelligent production.

EFFRA General Assembly 2025: Monocrom Joins the Transformation

Our membership was officially announced during the EFFRA General Assembly held on March 25, 2025, at the Sparks Conference Centre in Brussels. At the event, EFFRA President Olaf Pannenbäcker warmly welcomed the new members, which also include renowned organizations such as Wärtsilä (Finland), Ford (United Kingdom), UNINOVA (Portugal), and the Technical University of Denmark, among others.
Monocrom’s candidacy was unanimously approved, with special recognition given to our consistent track record in diode laser technology and our potential to deliver cutting-edge solutions across industrial, medical, and scientific sectors.

What Does This Alliance Mean for Monocrom?

Being part of EFFRA opens up exciting new opportunities for Monocrom, allowing us to:

• Join strategic working groups where European R&D roadmaps and investment priorities are shaped and aligned with future challenges.

• Participate in collaborative research projects funded by the European Union, especially under the Made in Europe initiative, which has a total budget of €900 million through 2027.

• Expand our international innovation network by connecting with key stakeholders—from academic institutions and research organizations to large corporations and SMEs.

• Contribute to shaping the upcoming European innovation framework (FP10), positioning ourselves as leaders in advanced manufacturing strategy and policy development.

EFFRA and the Future of European Industry

During the assembly, updates were shared on the progress of the Made in Europe initiative, which has already supported 89 projects with a combined investment of more than €600 million. These projects address strategic areas such as industrial digitalization, sustainability, advanced robotics, circular manufacturing, and the development of smart, connected products.
EFFRA has demonstrated its crucial role in guiding European industrial policies, driving forward decarbonization, industrial resilience, and technological leadership. Furthermore, there was a strong emphasis on the need to increase cross-sector collaboration and raise visibility for Pillar II of Horizon Europe, which is centered on collaborative innovation across Europe.

Looking Ahead

Joining EFFRA marks a significant step forward for Monocrom as we align with key players shaping the future of European manufacturing. We are proud to contribute our knowledge, experience, and technology to collective efforts that promote a more competitive, sustainable, and innovative industrial landscape.
